As an accomplished acoustic and electric bassist, John Adams is in high demand in a wide array of settings from club dates to recording sessions throughout Texas and the Southwest. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas and was also a part of the jazz faculty. John has taught at numerous summer music camps and workshops, both locally and in other parts of the country, including the "Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops."
John has toured with the Woody Herman Band, Sal Nistico and Zoot Sims, and while studying at U.N.T., the One O'clock Lab Band. His broad musical background included time as a member of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Worth Ballet (Orchestra), and the Dallas Symphony Pops Series. He has backed vocalists Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney, and Sandi Patti, and jazz stars such as Randy Brecker, Carl Fontana, Chet Baker, Clark Terry, Fred Hersch, Dave Liebman and others.
His debut (as a leader) jazz recording, "Jump Shot," features musicians from New York and Texas such as Marvin Stamm, Warren Bernhardt, and Ed Soph. He has also published an instructional book on jazz composition and small-group arranging that is based on the music on the "Jump Shot" CD. John Adams' working group is making an impact as one of the most exciting new jazz bands in the region.
