Gregory Sarchet has had an array of musical experiences and training, from studying with his first teacher, jazz luminary Rufus Reid, to receiving his degrees from the Juilliard School, (student of Michael G. Morgan), to hundreds of television/radio commercial recordings.
His ongoing international exchange efforts were recognized by a 1996 Chicago Artists International Program award which sent him to the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria for performances, master classes, and archival research. In the of Spring 1997, he served as guest artist and jury member at both the 11th Frantisek Gregora International Double bass Competition, (Kromeriz, Czech Republic), and the 19th International Double bass Competition and Festival (Debrecen, Hungary).
He plays Principal bass with Chicago Opera Theater and the Chicago Chamber
Orchestra, and has been a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago orchestra since 1986. He is the principal double bass instructor at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, at Columbia College, and maintains a limited private studio.
