I have an early 60s SAUMER bass that I bought used from A violin sales & repair shop in San Francisco; atleast I think it's early (19)60s.
The only thing that indicates it's origin is a label inside that reads "MADE IN GERMANY USSR OCCUPIED".
It is solid carved spruce top and solid maple sides and carved back. Tunning keys are unlike any other I have seen, not mounted two to each side on a solid metal plate but individual worm drive mechanism mortised into side of peg box with separate peg gears.
If anyone knows where these were made, I would enjoy knowing more about my intrument's origin.
Thank you
