: I want to fit an old plywood bass of mine with some sort pickup that is not prone to feeding back. But I need something that will get loud. I have a Gage
: pickup on my good bass but I need something that will get substaintaly louder. I realize that i will lose a lot of the basses sound going this route but this is for a project which will be loud and ugly. Any help would be appreciated.

A magnetic pickup, maybe?
Bob Comarow has an old Schaller to sell. (I sold it to him for about US$60 a few years ago)
Contact him at comarow@iu.net.
This isn't a humbucking design though, and the mounting brackets are not the best in town, but it's inexpensive.
There are high-quality magnetic pickups like the Pierre Joseph's String Charger and the Biesele but they're much more expensive.
