hey cat, I managed to get a great bass with all ebony parts for $995.00. It was $1600 originally but the finish on his one was bad. Your best bet is to find something like that. if you are going to play rockabilly the cheaper laminated basses are better. they deliver that punchy sound instead of the warmer carved sound. but get one with real ebony if you are going to play slap bass.
