As explained to me by Barrie Kolstein, there is a good bend and a bad bend. The
good is often made by the bow maker when he feels the pernambuco is soft and would
benefit from it in resisting the weight of the hand downward toward the bridge.
If my understanding is correct the good bend curves left (if you're looking down the
length of the bow from the frog). If the curve were exaggerated, from the front
while playing the bow would look like a smile. The bad bend is the opposite of this.
