hi Olivier, and thanks for your answer.
I just came back from a week's holidays, and now things are moving.
I'm going to buy a new bass this week, a polish upright that sounds really great, in excellent condition (seen the luthier twice, $1500 worth of repairs and fixes have been made on it.
But the person I'm buying it from told me that the Schertler didn't really sound too good on it. He uses a cardoid Sehnheiser clamped on the bass near the f hole, plus an FWF piezo.
I've also got an FWF piezo, but it just died out on me last week, it's not really reliable. I like its sound better than my former Fishman, but I haven't tried the Underwood sys.
Now I want something more reliable, and lots of people used the old Schertler model and get decent to very good sounds.
I think I'll get my piezo fixed, and try as many amplifications systems as possible.
It's a very delicate subject, and I'm getting many contradictory advices.
apparently the piezo/ microphone combination works well, but then it depends on the amp, and you need two inputs. The Schertler mic (the one that you place on the body of the instrument) apparently sounds good by yourself, but is rather nightmarish when you play with a drummer.
I've read good reviews of Gage's "Realist"
I play mostly in clubs, and don't have and amp. If I buy one, I think I'll go for a Gallien Krueger, or a SWR Red head. But that's not in the near future...
