: It is a Engelhardt S1 I picked up for just over a grand brand new. I have taped a tuner to the bridge to try and get the notes right, but as you may guess it is all a bit daunting at the moment.

: I bought the bass to play bebop jazz and rockabilly so I am not even considering leaning to play with a bow. Please can you direct me to any pertinant info, eg books, sites etc etc.

: Thanks

OK. I play Bass and all i can say is that with a tuner atached to your
bridge, you will be making your self miserable for a long time by trying to
play perfectly like right now. the intro of learning bass is the most important
part of being able to play. a good book is "the jazz theory book". its a good book to learn jazz forms and patterns
and you can also put them into use with the rockabilly aspect of things.
i would also recomend learning how to use a bow. there are som really sweet jazz
parts that use a bow. good luck.
