Gut strings seem to be the purists preference for tone/sound etc. but are expensive and need more maintenance than steel. steel are hard work if you are a newbie,and hard on the instrument(slap style) you might try Innovation RB strings as i did. easy on the fingers and the finger board,fairly reasonable cost also.
