: : : : Anyone want to start this thread? Post your favorite bass players here...we can dod differernt styles as well..I guess this would be improv, but for me it's all about Gary Peacock and Drew Gress...let's hear some opinions..

: : : Gee, this ones hard. Probably Mingus, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter(this dude rules!) and hmmmm, my teacher Bruce Evans recently put out a cd I really liked so we'll add him in to. And thats just Jazz bass players! Anyone ever listen to Arturo Sandoval? And then theres Edgar Meyer too, but he's more bluegrass isn't he?kinda some sorta cross over.

: : : Katie, isn't Arturo a trumpet player??? You must mean Ray Brown when
: : he was 17.

: Yes, he is. But as far as Jazz musicians go he is very good. Plus his pieces are very fun to play! Most of my favorites are by him. What do you mean by the Ray Brown thing?

Katie, I wanted to see if you would read what I wrote! I am very impressed with
this form of communication and I have received many helpful suggestions in
response to my questions and others too.
Oscar Peterson, Wes Montgomery and Ella Fitzgerald are my favorite jazz.
I joined a community orchestra and now I love working thru all the centuries old music.
When I get a chance my favorite is "Chamber Music" - but double bass doesn't
always get to participate.

This weekend I'm playing "Kiss Me Kate" with a community group.
Our next orchestra concert will include the Dvorak cello concerto.
This summer I hope to Stand Alone and play my bass (alone - solo)
and "stay in shape" - good luck with your bass projects.
