: : Does anyone know what kind of strings come on the Engelhardt's direct from the factory (specifically the EC-1)?
: : Thanks!
: :I believe they are the low level Super-Sensitives[Red Silks on ball ends]the same strings most schools buy. They are also known as "The Barbed Wires" of the bass string world!
Just have to stick up for supersensitive for a moment. The strings you are reffering to are Red Labels by Supersensitive. Theses are by far NOT the worst strings out there. I have played some showroom basses with factory strings (not supersensitive) that sounded like crap. Supersensitives are capable of producing a decent sound. Particurally if you are going to use the bass for multiple playing styles. Also, they settle in quickly. For my Jazz bass, I string it with Jazz med. Helicores but I pack a set of red labels when I travel in case I need a new string simply because my higher end strings couldn't settle in fast enough. For a begginers string theses are VERY good, and it is unfair to be spreading their bad name, especially when I know there are worse strings out there.
