: : I recently saw in a Musician's Friend catolouge an Epiphone EB-1 viola bass, fretless with a telescoping stand for upright use. Now i'm an electirc bassist interested in upright playing. I'd like to know if anyone has had experience playing that bass or a bass similar to it. The price is $359. so If anyone has had experience with this bass or a similar one in its price ranage please let me know.

: you know.. if you're truely thinking that you are ready to play a double bass, you're so badly mistaken. you seem like you should really check your thoughts out before you go blowing some money.. i mean if you're really gonna buy that you're nuts.... so here's what you need to do.... go to the hardware store or wal-mart or where ever you prefer and get you a 1-2 inch dowel rod stick it in the bottom of your bass, and poof!! you have your ideal up-right what would ever possess you to come up with such a stupid, idiotic idea i'm not sure but quit wasting so much time of yours and others on the internet.... p.s. i hope i haven't offended you
The last guy is kind of a jackass. I've got this bass (sort of!) The version I has has frets but yeah, you can play it upright with the telescoping stand although it is not as stable as I would have hoped. I like mine because the body is small and it is very light and easy on the shoulder and back when playing conventionally. Plus it looks really retro and doesn't look like the same old p-bass every jazz player uses. Plus it is about $100-$150 less than the Epi sunburst "Hofner Viola" copy with two pick ups (the McCartney clone). You can probably buy a better sounding single pup or split pup bass for the same $350.00 but you'll have to rig a stand. Actually the sound is fine if your playing regular bass rhythyms which is what I do with it If you going to try and go funky or heavy with it you'll not get what your looking for. Frankly, a cut away body style bass doesn't look good standing up. Also (FYI) if you have a chance to pick up do it soon. I had to order a strap button to fit the 8 mm threaded hole in the tail because I lost mine, and when I called Gibson they told me this was discontinued for the US market. Enjoy
