I own a turner ren, which I asolutely love, and I tried an allen briefly in a store--not a very lengthy test, so take this with a grain of salt.

They were very similar, first off. Allen used to work for Turner, and there are some similarities in design, but the Turner is constructed more like a traditional flatop, with bent sides and a spruce soundboard, while the allen is a carved piece (or pieces) of wood with a flat top of some less traditional acoustic top wood, like maple.

The allen felt and responded more like an electric bass to me, but at the same time, it had a little more of the "thump" you can get from an upright. That's most likely the nylon strings talking. Overall, I'd have to say it was more conventional in sound and feel than the Turner, and so maybe an easier bass to get used to. I found with the ren I had to rethink a lot of my technique, sort of like switching from electric to upright
