: Dear Colleagues:

: Began playing again after 25 year hiatus;I've got a bass, and I've got a teacher. I need to buy an inexpensive bow to start out with. My lessons are for classical technique(Simandl),but I also wish to play Jazz,Folk,Pop,etc.
: Teacher says get a German bow. SharMusic offers an A.Schmidt wood bow for $127.00. Anyone know if this is any good? Anyone have any bows for sale(Bob G.,maybe)?

I don't usually stock bows but have gotten bows in for customers, usually with the basses I sell. I am not familiar with Shar's low end wood bow.

I usually end up ordering a good quality fiberglas bow with real horse hair (artificial hair is awful) for beginners, and in fact have one myself for hazard duty and EUB gigs - they are fine IMHO for a start, but I'm not criticizing Shar's bow, I'm just cheap and the fiberglas one does the job.
