: Has anyone been able to check out the ZETA Crossover bass? How does it sound? I want something small and easy to play that will sound good for the upright songs I play in this country band. Thanks in advance for your opinions.
I have the ZETA "educator" bass and have been playing it for a few months now. I don't know if it is similar to what you're referring to but, I'm happy with the ZETA Educator. This instrument has an extension rod and can be played either upright (plucked or bowed) as well as with a strap played like a fretless electric. It has a sound of it's own, that I would describe as closer to an amplified upright (with pickups) than a regular electric bass. It is equipped with a plastic brace, which is very important if you plan to bow your instrument, to minimize twisting. In fact, it is impossible to bow this instrument without the body brace. One disadvantage which I've just discovered, is when doing a slide downwards towards the nut, it's easy to forget that the instrument is so light you could lift the whole instrument, while do so.
I hope this info helps. Lots of luck.
