: : Does anyone play eudoxa strings out there? I have been looking for a super low tension E and A string to match my gut D and G. What is the tension like on the eudoxas? Is it more like steel? are they thick like gut strings? Any other recommendations? I have used plain gut E and A, wound on gut E and A (Goetz) and I currently use cheap mexican tololoche E and A strings.
: : thanks for your help!!
: I personally love the goetz plain gut(lahair "babsaite")
: for all four strings. But the E&A wound'nt work w/ any other D&G strings due to their giant diameter.I had good luck w/ thomastic dominants solo set as a steel over gut(synthetic)up top and gut on bottem, fairly low tension.
>>>I probably wouldn't like the difference in diameter. did your plain gut E and A have any sustain at all? I tried the Goetz wound over gut but they are to high tension for slapping.
: What are the tololoche strings like,I've geen wondering about those?
>>they are nylon core with nylon round wound. they are the most low tension string ever. people say they are like spaghetti. mine are rainbow colored, which gets even more comments- they do have other colors. I use them on the E and A because they have more sustain and definition than the pain guts that i got. they aren't as warm and round as gut and they have a tendency to buzz in the lower register until you learn to handle them right. but they actually sound OK when bowed. they are super cheap---25 a set form ziggie's music in phoenix.
: What style of music are you playing?
>>>i do alot of rockabilly style slap in with Catfish Stephenson--- it's blues but not chicago, more delta and old-school with a rockabilly/country bent. I also do funk, pop, a bit of jazz, rock and folk with it too. so i need strings that can hang with ANY style. Gut D and G are great but I have tried alot of E and A's. Maybe I am just expecting too much.
