It seems that Walter himself agrees with you, Ed, as he called me back tonight to insist that I send him the amplifier to be essentially rebuilt at no charge. He said that in thirty years no one has had problems as I have described, and he thinks that I got a "lemon," which is not a situation he is willing to let go unrectified. His concern is quite sincere and of course admirable in this age of market-driven morality: where else would you find a manufacturer with a two-year waiting list for new products so willing to clear his name in the eyes of one lonely customer who purchased the product second-hand (albeit unused second-hand)?
So let not the name of Walter Woods be smudged--he makes wonderful amplifiers and I am looking forward to using mine again soon. I would like to suggest once again that tone is in the fingers and that my WT400 suffices, but I also have to say that, with my humble fingers, the Clarus faired badly indeed compared to my Woods, through the same speaker cabinet. But if I had never played through a Woods when I tried the Clarus, I would have excitedly said that the Clarus sounded better than my old GK. Mileage does vary...
