: Hi, i just purchased a kay bass and fingerboard has string grooves
: in it and its not all to black. Also seems like neck is coming straight out, its not flush with back. Should i sand down fingerboard? Some how need to
: harden up fingerboard?ebony paint???OR should I just let pro put on new fingerboard? which is how much? is it worth it? Its 50 yrs old 0100-b model. any suggestions.. Also any players in CT. out there, looking for mentor and jazzers to jam with..thanks

The fingerboard may have been hard maple stained black (black leather dye works well). If the grooves are not deep and there is sufficient wood remaining, it's possible it could be dressed by a competent luthier. The fact that the neck is coming out also indicates it's time for a visit-- loosen the strings and have it properly reset.

If you have no luthier contacts, check with other players for a referral or consult the Luthiers Directory on my Links site; there are listings from all over the world:
