Was he "talking" with an Australian accent? Regardless, hire a trombone player and have him hall your bass and a big rock (250 lb should do) to a cold deep lake. Attach the rock to your bass and chuck it in. The nut is both:
-the last black thing you'll see before it submerges, and
-The trombone player trying to retrieve it.

The sinking should improve the sound production significantly, especially if you leave it in a meatlocker or sawmill kiln for a few weeks to dry out.
