: I posted this a few months ago without any response, so I'll ask my bass clef brethren once again! It's an Alfred Meyer from Markneukirchen, Germany made in 1936 It has solid carved top and back, and as a machinist for my main gig, I've been impressed by the quality, fit,& accuracy of the joints when I had it disassembled for repair. It had been passed over since about 1966 in my dad's repair shop because it was believed to be a unvaluable Kay! Ha! So after removing the sloppy/dark varnish overlay with alcohol, it left a nice original light orange shellac on most of the surfaces. Only waiting for drier weather for a top coat finish. Thanks for any info Jon
Jon- I have a 1938 Alfred Meyer and it too, has a muddy finish. I don't have any info on Alfred Meyer. The bass does feel solid, though, and you have pointed out that it is ,indeed, made well.
