: Hi, Just curious if anybody knows a dimension of contour(roundness of fingerboard). Seems like my fingerboard on 1 bass is flat. Is it just preference? Also anybody know good method for planeing and then planeing for relief i gotta have? thanks

Some boards have a bevel for the E string, historically created to handle the widely swinging loose E's of yesteryear. Many basses have rounded boards, but beveled boards are still popular.

You'll find a couple links to info on bass fingerboard shaping on my LINKS list, link below. One is some general comments from Barrie Kolstein that I host, and another is a more scientific explanation of string instrument relief. Hope you handle math problems well.
