: A couple of years ago I had this bass fixed up by the guys at the Bass/Viol shop in Cincinnatti. It had been sitting idle for several years but now it's up and running, in good condition, save for some cracks that have been given the attention they need by the forementioned guys in Cincinnatti(Dennis). It's a hand carved bass from the 1880's, but the name on the label is worn off from time.
: I want to know what such an instrument may be worth, and I know that depends on who wants it bad enough. I've had one estimate at $5000. I need a second, third, etc. opinion.
: Any info would be great. Thanks. -Brady Young, WV
Estimates for such an instrument can be all over the map; it's age and country or origin doesn't really provide any clues. You'll need to get an in-person assessment. Check my Links and Luthier directory, link below, which may give you some targets if you don't already have candidates for an appraisal.
