: If you're relying on space available in the overhead, you better hope the train ain't crowded. You also want to think about how you will secure the bass up there, you don't want it sliding back and forth all around and sh*t.

: If you're going more than 8 hours distance, maybe think about getting a sleeper car. It's like having a big room for yourself, there's kind of room to keep the bass in there. I guess the other thing you wanna make sure of is that you don't have to respond to the whim of whoever is dealing with your car (you can't bring that in here, it has to go to the luggage car. you need to buy a seat for that.

: That'll need to go in back, behind the last seat. No we won't be responsible for anything that happens to it.)That kinda thing.

Damn this really is getting scary ( hints of Twilight Zone e.t.c ) - I find myself in total agreement with Ed yet again .
( If anyone has ever read any of the threads where Ed & I have clashed they will know that this just DOES NOT HAPPEN !!!!!! )
I don't know the arrangements in your trains ( all I know is that they're a damned sight bigger than the toys they have here in the good ole U.K ! ) but every time I have travelled by train my bass sits right beside me - certainly not in the overhead rack and absolutely ,totally NOT in the guards van , not ever !
I don't care what anyone says my bass stays with me - it's worth more to me than can be expressed and not to be trusted in anyone else's care . Call me inconsiderate - for that matter call me whatever the hell you like - that's how I've done it in the past and that's how I'm going to kee on doing it !
This has probably been of no help whatsoever but it's the way a bass should be treated --- preciously !
Andy .
