: Has anyone out there in bassdom tried a mic + a feedback exterminator in a live setup? I have read that guitarists and dobro players do this... Or maybe it could be used with pickups as well. I have been finding out that different rooms and stages cause my bass to feedback at different frequencies.
: Any thoughts?
There was some traffic on the topic on the 2xbass list a couple years ago, you may want to check the archives.
One of the guys I sold a pickup to recently told me he bought one of the new Behringer Shark DSP110 boxes - it's about the size of a brick (unusual) and is very inexpensive. He said that it worked out very well for him - it has a lot of features.
I had gotten one a month or two earlier, just to check out - I usually don't play double bass at levels that cause feedback problems, but this do-it-all box fascinated me. However, my experience was frustrating- I've included a link below to the HC review database, and some of those folks had similar experiences to mine-- the docs are horrible and the device not initially logical. I messed with it for a while and couldn't make much headway, and it wasn't during one of my more patient days, so I tossed it back in the box and sent it back. It just ticks me off when instructions are minimal and useless when a device clearly requires some clarification.
But it's still a helluva bargain based on what it can do, according to some, and - I probably should have put it aside for a more patient day
