I have spent ALOT of time and money on this very thing. I am using Supersensitive Sensicore E and A right now. they are flexible enough to slap and still have a nice tone for pizz and bowing. The two strings cost me around $60. I am going to try the Eurosonics tomorrow. The sensicore are the best multi-purpose string I have found yet-for the price... I also play bluegrass, rockabilly, pop,jazz,etc...
