: : the gage is even darker than the underwood and will not give you enough volume to play loud. Try Bob G's KK Bass Max. A 210 or 410 speaker cabinet is good better than 15s.

: It's funny, I've met plenty of bassists who couldn't get a lot of volume out of the Gage "Realist" pickup and who had feedback problems, but I've run across an equal number (myself included)who can crank the Realist to astonishing volume levels; and on the same bass, the Bass Max gives me nothing but feedback at similar volumes. As much as it pains my wallet to say it, I think that different basses must have different responses and that experimenting with a number of different pick-ups is the only way to find out for certain. An excellent and very in-demand bassist in the New England area has an Underwood, a Realist, a Wilson, and a String Charger on his bass, and he switches between them depending on the room! Not that we all have that luxury, but you never know which one might work for you and your bass until you try it.
: Good luck!

I have to agree... different pickups work better in differtent rooms. I use a realist and i blend it with a modified kk bass max.... i think the realist is great for low end and sustain. if you can blend it with a mic or another p=up you should have the best of both...
