: I have a standard (3/4) sized bass. It's a '78 Engelhardt and its bridge is has folded under the pressure. It's pretty seriously warped. This is not the original bridge and it was very poorly fitted...the feet are'nt flush and the string spacing is just funky! I bought a new bridge that's a blank and I've cut and shaped it to properly fit the bass. My question is what is the proper string spacing? I realize no one can give a precise answer, but there must be some standard system of measurement. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx y'all!
:

There is no absolute rule for string spacing, but measures of between 7/8 inch to a bit more than one inch from string center to string center are common.
