: Just discovered this forum and hope some of you might be able to help me. My father passed a way a few years ago and left me his Kay bass. I'm 55 and it's been around as long as I can remember. Although an engineer by profession he was also a musician. Am looking for info and value on his bass. Through a nice gentleman with a Kay Bass directory I was able to obtain some info. My dad bought his bass new right out of high school. I was told it was made in 1937 which would fit. It's a Selmer Kay 3/4 (I think). The label inside says Genuine Kay Bass Viol. S-10 Selmer Kay Model. There's the square with the "K" in it. The serial number is 1230 which is also hand written near the label. It's blonde. The sides of the tuner are a polished gold metal with engraved scroll work and the words Selmer Kay also engraved. He stopped playing in the late 70's and the bass has always been stored in its bag upright indoors. By the way, he use to travel with the bass to his gigs in our Volkswagen bug. Quite a sight unloading it. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
WOW!! Nice bass. If your're trying to sell it and it still has great sound, you won't have a
problem. I wish I could afford it. Good Luck, Don.
