: : I've seen some fellas wedge a vocals mic behind the tailpiece. Does that work? If so, which would be better, the Sure 57 or 58? would an omni directional produce feedback in front of monitors? I'm in a bluegrass band that has outgrown the single mic show and we're having to mic up across the stage. I can't afford a pick-up right now. Any suggestions would be helpful I assure. MIchael

: a 57 and 58 are the same the 58 has the ball and some extra windproofing for closeup vocals- the 58 is more for instruments. I would use a 57 wrapped in foam. it works well as long as you are not going to need much thru the monitors. i am going to try an AKG D409 clip in dynamic mic for my bass- only $130! and you can clip it up near the fingerboard to get slaps. good luck

The 57 is uni-directional and the 58, omni-directional. I was concerned that the 57, therefore, wouldn't pick up as well. Am I concerned over nothing? Have you ever used a 57 or 58, or comparible mics?
