: Hi,
: I am new to the double bass. I have been taking lessons with a French bow and I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of the French vs. the German bow.

: Thanks

There might be some truth in saying that German is easier for beginners. Well, it seems to me that teaching the basics of French could be much more developped !

I absolutely agree when someone says that German is easier when playing sitting.

Anyway I feel that French bow offers a little bit
more nuances in order to approach a similar technique as that of the the violin.

I love French bow and love to listen to different sounds of string players.
Among the bass world, youŽll find an infinity
of sounds and conceptions, which is very exciting.

Maybe the administrator of Acousticbass will find back an interesting, more extensive discussion on this subject that took place on the older board.
