Part of the reason is that the old Kays were made with a bit more care and attention than the new engelhardts. I have owned 2 engels and I have 2 Kays now and there is a difference. The finish and the glue are 2 things that seem to make a difference. the engels use modern glue and lacquer that dampen the sound. The old kays used glue and varnish that let them resonate more. Kind of nerdy but it makes a difference. I have to agree with the other dude that you would be in great shape if you put some money into that kay instead of the engelhardt.
