It's the other way around, the bridge placement is dictated by the bass' construction. The bridge legs should be centered on the inside cuts on the f-holes.

The soundpost can be anywhere from directly under the bridge foot to up to 2-3 inches away, still in line with the bridge foot but towards the endpin of the bass. Generally speaking, the closer the sound post is to the bridge, the more focused the sound.
