: I need some Precision style pick ups for my bass. I have considered EMG, going on the old saying you get what you pay, and they're the most expensive I can get locally (I live in Australia, there's not many bassists over here). I have now been informed the EMG's come pre-wired with the potentiometers and everything included. I think this may be part of the reason they're more expensive, rather than the quality of the pick ups themselves. So my question is can I get a better pick-up for similar money? I don't mind if they cost a bit more, or if I have to wire them up because I'm an electrician by trade. Thanks for reading. Please respond.

I've never been fond of the p-bass pickup solution on an URB. I've used some individual custom single string magnetic pickups, but more recently got into what Lace built for Moses Graphite's EUB. The only trouble with them was their directional 60hz hum, but they have redesigned them to make them humbucking, and with different materials to make up for the tonal differences. You can see a photo at my web site, link below.

I hope to have a prototype to test soon, and if they pass the Bob Test, I'll offer them again.
