I'm looking to purchase an electric upright bass soon. I'm looking for a bass that has the feel of a traditional upright bass but without the bulky transportation difficulties, the costly repairs to the body, the feedback problems associated with an acoustic pickup, and the EQ difficulties of trying to get the right tone out of an upright that just won't cooperate. I like the upright sounds of cats like John Patitucci, Kim Stone, Paul Chambers, and Charles Mingus. I play in numerous small combos, as well as rock and latin settings, plus I play in my university big band. I also use a bow in several situations, many of them orchestral.
I've narrowed my choices down to three: The G. Edward Lutherie Eminence bass, the Knutson Lutherie Messenger bass, and the Yamaha Silent Bass. I just needed a bit of information on any of these basses, plus comments from any users of these basses that might aide in my decision. Which bass has the best tone? Which bass might be most beneficial to my style of playing? Which bass has the best pickup? Which is the most cost efficient? Things like that. Any help would be appreciated.
