: say bob......i am a bit frightened by removable necks, it seems to me that the neck should be glued on to the bass!...since the eminence is so slim and fits into a flight case it occurs to me that the removable neck model does not offer significant benefits in terms of transport and could possibly not sound as good as the fixed neck model. since you have played both i would very much like to hear your comments.

I sprung for a removable-neck Eminence and it sounds and plays fine. The joint is a hefty steel dovetail block that, in all honesty, is probably more durable than the standard wooden neck block. To my ears, the effect on tone is negligible.

I bought the Eminence because a standard 3/4 overwhelms my small studio apartment. I figured, if I'm aiming for portability and small size, why not go all the way? While I rarely break the instrument down to 2 pieces, it's nice to know that I have the option. And the two pieces fit nicely inside a standard SKB golf-club case, so you don't have to spend big bucks on a custom flight case and oversize luggage/shipping charges.
