I bought a Strunal last year and am quite pleased with it. But, it wasn't a good playing bass out of the box. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 5/20 and 5/35 although my guess would be the more expensive bass has an ebony fingerboard while the cheaper bass has an "ebonized" fingerboard (also known as cheap wood painted black!).

My bass came with an ebony fingerboard. When I bought it, the fingerboard needed to be planed a bit to get the proper amount of relief. I put a new bridge in the bass which was shaped to match the shape of the fingerboard. New strings (Thomastic Weichs)were need as the cheap aluminum strings that came with the bass just didn't cut it. I also replaced the sound post, tail piece and tail wire. With all of this set-up work I ended up putting a total of $2,000 into the bass including the purchase price. I didn't replace it, but I found that the end pin leaves alot to be desired on the bass but I was able to work out a fix for it.

All-in-all, I am very happy with the bass and its sound. I've seen Strunals available at stores like Sam Ash and other "chains" but you won't be happy until you get a good set-up for the bass.

Good luck and happy playing!
