As a young bass student in Denver, I used to hear Ray Brown at the Dick Gibson jazz concerts and parties that Gibson held here.
He was approachable, he was down-to-earth, interesting and a great inspiration to young students. His work with Oscar Peterson is how I will choose to remember him best. He was the epitomy of swing...his walking lines should be studied by every serious jazz bass student. What a tragic, tragic loss.
If anybody gets word of funeral arrangements, please post them here.
