: Could anyone please explain what is an underwood pickup for a upright aucostic bass? In short, what are the pros and cons with an underwood pickup compared to other pickups (e.g. the realist, etc.)?

Well.
The Underwood is one of the first good AUB pickups. It's still one of the most popular.
It has two elements, which are installed under the bridge wings. It has been copied a lot.
I prefer it to the Fishman, which almost only picks up the strings.
The Underwood picks up both string and body tone.
The realist picks up body tone.
On some basses, notably plywoods, it can be very boomy.
Hope this helps!
