: : Could anyone please explain what is an underwood pickup for a upright aucostic bass? In short, what are the pros and cons with an underwood pickup compared to other pickups (e.g. the realist, etc.)?

: Well.
: The Underwood is one of the first good AUB pickups. It's still one of the most popular.
: It has two elements, which are installed under the bridge wings. It has been copied a lot.
: I prefer it to the Fishman, which almost only picks up the strings.
: The Underwood picks up both string and body tone.
: The realist picks up body tone.
: On some basses, notably plywoods, it can be very boomy.
: Hope this helps!

My solution to the differences in these two pickups has been to blend a Fishman with a Realist through a Raven Labs Master Blender. Why? Because I like some string sound and some body sound.
