: Hello. I have a Fishman pickup and an SWR 12" amp (Workingman's 12). It sounds okay, not great; I've generally avoided amplification altogether. Now I'm in a band for which I need to play loud. Two questions regarding this:

: 1. Is there anything I can do to make the sound less electric and more acoustic without spending a lot of money? On the other hand, I also want to use some effects pedals and maybe an effects processor; in the past, this has caused feedback. What do I need to improve that sound?

: 2. I tried bowing using my current setup, and it sounds awful. What can I do to make it better?

: Thanks in advance.

I USE THE GAGE REALIST AND IT IS GREAT! ON ONE OF MY BASSES I DON'T EVEN NEED A PREAMP. IT GIVES THE BEST ARCO TONE BY FAR - I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER PICKUPS BEFORE. THE NICE THING IS IT SOUNDS NATURAL AND IT DOESN'T FEED BACK EASILY. AS FOR EFFECTS PERHAPS YOU COULD USE THE REALIST OR USE A MAGNETIC PICKUP AND HAVE A FOOTSWITCH SO THAT YOU ARE USING THE REALIST FOR NATURAL SOUND AND THEN KICK IT OVER TO THE MAGNETIC FOR THE EFFECTS. THEN YOU COULD GO NUTS AND NOT REALLY WORRY. GOOD LUCK!!!!
