: I 've seen this bow on ebay and I've been wondering if it was any good. It lists that it is brazilwood with an ebony frog but does that make it good quality. Yiu can view it using the link.

The best bows are made of pernambuco, which I've heard is very similar to brazilwood - but better quality...and quite rare. (Some realy good bows are made of snakewood, which is even more rare.) You won't touch a pernambuce bow for under a hundred dollars..and they can go into the thousands.

This bow is made of brazilwood - has an ebony frog...hand-crafted....MENC standards. Those are all good things - Offhand, I would say this is a good value for fifty or sixty bucks.

The big question is how it plays...it's almost bizarre how different bows can work great on one instrument - and then be all wrong for another one.

It's really preferable to try them out on your own axe and find a nice match. Failing that, a bow like this is probably a good buy.

Hope this helps
