: What , if any is the difference between carved and solid wood basses?

They are usually interchangable terms, although there apparently are some exceptions. I am told that some manufacturers are making tops and backs by forming solid wood using heat, moisture, and pressure, and therefore are able to use the term "solid wood". However, this is NOT a carved bass, where the wood is shaped by the removal of material.
