you should have no gap. i just carefully push the bridge back into place if mine leans. i also take a a pencil and and draw into the string slots and get alot of graphite in there to help the string slide through so it doesn't grab the bridge and pull it up. if you take the tension off too much and then reset it, when you tune back up it can just pull the bridge back up again.
