I've tried all kinds of strings over the past several years and I don't believe there is one string which will do everything. A bright string (i.e., Spirocore) might bow well on one bass and sound awful on another. Unfortunately the only way to really know is to try many strings, which is an expensive experiment. A good luthier can also help you tune your setup for the strings you prefer; make sure you find someone without strong opinions about how a bass should sound. With a good setup, you may find that "arco" strings produce enough projection and sustain for jazz playing.
