I currently own two basses, one plywood, one Tyrolean carved. I have the Realist on both basses. When I play small restaurants, the Realist works great for me, but in bigger rooms and with music other than Jazz, I am not getting an all around sound. The more I turn up the gain, a certain boominess appears. I am considering the AMT microphone, which I would blend or use on it's own. I guess the other problem I find with the Realist is unclear definition in the thumb position. I know that these are the obstacles of playing the Big Boy, and the location of where you are playing is another important factor. I like to use a Mesa Boogie Walkabout and a 12 inch Bag End, using a Fishman Parametric EQ. Through experience, I would say a great factor is how the signal is received through the amplifier. Boosting the signal may be another consideration. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Getting THE SOUND is surely on all of our minds.
