: : thank you

: There is a great deal of difference, and there are few true acoustic bass guitars that can actually compete with one or more acoustic guitars (especially under $1000) -- you would be better served by purchasing an electric guitar. You may want to consider less "electric-looking" bass guitars -- Dean makes a Rhapsody bass (model HB) with semi-hollow construction, and while the body lends little to the sound, it does have a more acoustic look, but would still handle any rock tune. I picked up one on a lark, and have been very pleased with it, in spite of the fact that I have other basses that are much more expensive. It's just an example, but they are pretty cheap and very playable.

: BTW, despite the possibly misleading name, this board is for upright bass players; you may want to visit talkbass.com in the electric section, and pose your question there.
