: : : : I need to learn how to play slap bass and what kind of strings and pick-ups I need to do it.
: : : Well, first of all I have to greet you because this is my first post in this board. Tim; to slap I recommend you first of all light gauge strings (this is; the G string .040). Vigier ones works for me but if you want to focus only on slap you can use lighter gauges (as .035 for the G string). If you aren'r going to play only slap I don't recomend you theese because you lose "punch" with them.
: : : I don't know what kind of pickups you can use (I don't know much about pickups, sorry) and for the theory try teh bass libster (wich URL is in basslinks.com). Good luck and be patient!
: : : Enjoy life as it was your music!
: Hi there,
: This is TG, I suggest looking at your right hand as follows:
: Thumb=kick drum (T)
: Index=snare drum (P)
: For the left hand:
: Hammer-Ons (H)as one and two notes of a triplet
: Pluck as the third note in the group
: so the pattern would be Thump, Hammer-on, Pluck (THP)
: The left hand doesn't need to have intonation to be effective. Try it for JUST the rhythm and see what you get. Bass is a ryhthm instrument after all.
: Then learn to play the grooves you want as though you were the drummer
