Dont quit music.

You have only been playing for 4 months bro.
You dont need a pro instrument. You havent played long enough to even know what makes an instrument good. Or what you would even want out of a professional instrument.
Dont have regrets man. No need for that.
In my opinion its good you started on 4. 5 string
is much more difficult to mute properly.

I played my $300 peavy foudation about 2 years before I got a decent spector 4 string. A few years after that I moved up to a carvin 6 string.
Then a few years after that a tobias 6 string.
Played that for a long time. I just got a custom curbow 5 string a year and half ago. It took me
14 years to get to this point. It takes time.

One thing I think is very important. Stick to one type of intrument. What I mean is play your instrument exclusivly. If you play a fender jazz bass. Just play that type of bass. Your body gets used to the way an intrument feels. You dont need a collection of a gazzillion different basses.
All the super great players i have ever seen only have a few basses and they are the same type.
Its up to you with time to figure out what that bass is. Dont worry about all that now though. It will happen with time.

Also, eventually learn how to set up your instrument properly. This means setting up your action and intonation. Only YOU will know how you want your instrument to play. This take time also.
Dont worry about it now but its something will want to experiment with eventually.

Hope that wasnt overwhelming.
