: Currently I have no bass amplification. For the past year I have been playing
: an acoustic bass. I am in the market for a new bass so the subject of
: amplification comes up. I had used Trace Eliot back about a year and a half
: ago and loved the tone. However now I am also purchasing a keyboard and a new
: electric guitar. I sing as well.
: My question is: Can I get a good tone with a quality preamp direct to a small
: 500 to 800 watt two cabinet power mixer PA?
: Considering my interest in many instruments this would work out very well for
: me as opposed to buying seperate bass and guitar amps.
: Also, space is a problem as well.

Jaybois,
The one thing that I'd see as being a potential problem would be that the PA - the speakers, especially - isn't voiced as an instrument amp. You should be able to tweak a *good* preamp to compensate, so it's not all that big of a problem, but I wanted to throw that in, just for information's sake.

Hope that helps!
