Ok, here's my problem. I've been playing for a year - year and a half and I want to play in a band. Now, I know NONE that is in a band, and I am not particularly good at playing yet. I can't read, I can't just improvise with music. I barely know where the notes are on the fretboard (Huge mistake not learning this from day 1... I was to lazy to learn, but man do I regret that)
Now, if I put out an add or something in the local musicstore the people answering it will probably expect me to read...or at least be able to improvise some.
So, since many of you seem to have much more experiance then me in this area, I was wondering what is expected of a bassplayer that just want to play with others, maybe the occational club-gig.
And is it even worth looking for a band being a beginner like me. All bands looking for beginners seem to be 15-19 years old. I started late, and now I'm 28... the 15-19 crowd seem a bit young for me :-)
Right now it feels like my ship has sailed when it comes to music. I won't quit playing, don't get me wrong becous I love my bass, but it feels like I "lost" the times when it was ok to stink (I mean age wize).
But how do I know when I'm good enough to say with confidence that I know how to play?
Ok, this sounds stupid, but I hope you know what I mean :-)
